Kumasi police investigate theft of five-month-old baby at Asafo Market

Police in Kumasi are investigating the theft of a five-month-old baby boy, Akwasi Banahene, from the Asafo Market. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. at the Cape Coast Bus Terminal area in the Opera Site section of the market.

The mother, 25-year-old food vendor Freda Owusu, had brought the infant to work. According to family members, the baby was sleeping on a bedsheet in front of their stall while Owusu attended to her business. When she turned to retrieve something, she discovered that both the child and an unidentified woman were gone.

The suspect is described as a dark-complexioned, short woman believed to be in her late 30s. Family members noted that the woman was not known to local traders and had only been seen sitting near the stall shortly before the disappearance. The matter has been reported to the Asokwa Police Station, and the family is appealing to the public for assistance in locating the child.
