Kumasi police station modernization receives GH¢200,000 donation
The Ashanti Business Owners Association (ABOA) has donated GH¢200,000 to support the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in relocating the Kumasi Central Police Station to a temporary structure. This relocation is necessary to facilitate the construction of a modern, state-of-the-art police division complex.
The new facility is intended to address severe infrastructure deficits, modernize security operations, and eliminate cell overcrowding. The project aims to replace nine pre-colonial police offices with a modern facility featuring six specialized holding cells and an executive conference room. Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi noted that the overhaul is also driven by the need to protect the human rights of suspects by improving detention conditions.
The government has allocated GH¢4.8 million for the construction of the permanent police complex. The ABOA donation brings the total funds mobilized for the temporary structure to GH¢410,000, toward a required GH¢750,000 for the interim offices. Construction of the main complex is expected to begin once the temporary station is operational.
