Kumasi railway workers face eviction notice

Retired and serving railway workers in the Adum enclave of Kumasi are facing potential homelessness following a three-month eviction notice allegedly issued by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). The residents, some of whom have lived in the bungalows on railway lands for over 30 years, are expressing significant distress over the directive.

Emmanuel Quani Mensah, a former Principal Sales Officer of the Ghana Railway Company, stated that many occupants are pensioners who have not yet received their full retirement benefits from the government. He argued that the government should settle these outstanding payments before enforcing the eviction, noting that many residents have nowhere else to go.

The eviction comes amid government initiatives to recover encroached railway lands and revamp the nation's railway infrastructure.
