Kumasi trailer crash kills at least two following brake failure

A heavily loaded DAF trailer suffered brake failure while descending a steep section of the Krofrom–Moro Market road in Kumasi, resulting in a multi-vehicle collision. At least two people are feared dead, and several others were injured in the accident.

The crash primarily impacted a “Pragyia” (a locally used motorized tricycle) and a motorbike, which were caught in the path of the out-of-control vehicle. Some vehicles also collided with nearby shops. Eyewitnesses reported that the tricycle was trapped and dragged into a gutter by the trailer.

Bystanders raised concerns regarding the mechanical condition of the trailer, specifically noting visibly worn-out tyres. The incident occurred less than 48 hours after Ghana's Transport Minister declared road fatalities a “national emergency.” Emergency responders from the Police and Ghana National Fire Service attended the scene to rescue trapped victims and manage the injured. Investigations are ongoing to confirm the identities of the victims and determine the exact cause of the crash.
