Kumiko Akiyoshi reflects on career and life experiences

Actress Kumiko Akiyoshi shared reflections on her life and career during an appearance on the TV Tokyo program ‘Nikenme wa Dou Suru? ~Tsumami no Hanashi~’. During the broadcast, she recalled an anecdote involving the late legendary actor Ken Takakura, noting his thoughtfulness in bringing coffee and sandwiches to the cast and crew during their time working together on the drama ‘Aniki’. She also admitted to a past social blunder where she declined his offer of food, a moment that drew humorous reactions from the show's hosts.

Akiyoshi also discussed the personal challenges she has faced throughout her career, including her rise to fame as a symbol of the ‘shirake generation’ in the 1970s. She touched upon significant life events, such as her early career experiences, her three marriages, and the tragic loss of her eldest son in an accident. Despite these hardships, she highlighted her commitment to lifelong learning, noting that she studied film technology in the United States at age 40 and completed graduate studies in public management at Waseda University at age 53. She continues to perform in various dramas and stage productions in her 70s.
