Kumiyama, Kyoto's New Giant Fresh‑Fish Market Draws Thousands

A new retail concept opened in Kumiyama, a town in southern Kyoto Prefecture, converting a vacant supermarket into the Kansai region’s largest fresh‑fish market, called Umiy a Maruyama Suisan. The store is located near National Route 24 and is operated by the Miyazu‑city fish wholesaler Yamichi Suisan.

The market sells whole fish (one‑piece) and has become a popular local destination, attracting about 10,000 visitors each week since its opening.
