Kumluca court sentences driver to prison in fatal motorcycle accident
A court in Kumluca, Antalya, has sentenced a driver, identified as N. M., to 2 years and 6 months in prison following a fatal traffic accident. The incident occurred on June 30, when a car driven by N. M. collided with a motorcycle operated by 27-year-old Onur Civelek.
Tragically, Civelek passed away in the hospital shortly after the collision. It was noted that the accident took place approximately one hour after Civelek had set a wedding date with his fiancé for August 14.
During the trial at the Kumluca 2nd Civil Court of First Instance, the victim's lawyer, Ceren Akkelle, argued that the driver was primarily at fault and acted with gross negligence. The defense lawyer, Serkan Öztürk, contended that the driver was only slightly at fault and requested an acquittal.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court decided to maintain judicial control measures and a ban on traveling abroad for the defendant. The Civelek family's legal counsel has announced intentions to appeal the decision to a higher court.
