Kumluca flood prevention project reaches 20 percent completion

The Üleşik Deresi Project in the Kumluca district of Antalya has reached 20 percent completion. To date, 130 million lira has been spent on the project, which has a total projected cost of 400 million lira.

So far, workers have constructed a 750-meter channel and two bridges. Once finished, the project will feature a 5,500-meter channel reinforced with stone walls and a total of 18 bridges. The infrastructure is designed to direct floodwaters from the mountains through the Kasapçayırı, Karşıyaka, and Kum neighborhoods toward the Akmaz Stream mouth in the Beykonak neighborhood, where it will discharge into the sea.

A breakwater at the mouth of the Akmaz Stream will prevent seawater from surging back into the channel during storms, ensuring smooth drainage. The project aims to mitigate annual flooding that has caused millions of lira in damages to local greenhouse agriculture. Completion is expected within approximately one year.
