Kunal Kamra show proceeds in Secunderabad under police security
Comedian Kunal Kamra’s stand-up show, ‘Standing Up’, proceeded in Secunderabad on Sunday, October 11, under heavy police security following threats of disruption.
The Hyderabad unit of the Bajrang Dal had lodged a formal complaint with the police, seeking to prevent the event. The group alleged that Kamra’s previous remarks regarding Hindu deities Ram and Sita were offensive and warned that members of both the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) would intervene if the performance took place.
Due to the opposition, organizers moved the venue from Vishweshwaraya Bhavan in Khairatabad to TGSRTC Kalabhavan. Chikkadpally police confirmed that while a small group of protesters arrived at the venue, the situation did not escalate and no untoward incidents were reported.
