Kunfusi Bridge collapse cuts off 4,000 residents in Ghana

The Kunfusi Bridge in Ghana’s Savannah Region has collapsed for the second time following several days of heavy rainfall. Located in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, the failure has cut off approximately 4,000 residents from essential services, including healthcare facilities and local markets.

The bridge serves as a critical transit point for the communities of Kunfusi, Kalba, and Tuna, and functions as an important cross-border trade route for travelers heading toward Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire. The disruption has significantly hindered farmers' ability to transport produce to markets, threatening local livelihoods.

Savannah Regional Minister Salisu Bia Wurbe, accompanied by officials from the Regional Coordinating Council and the District Chief Executive, inspected the site to assess the damage. Minister Wurbe stated that efforts would be made to restore access to the affected communities while pursuing arrangements for a new bridge. He warned residents to avoid the collapsed structure due to the danger it poses and advised the use of alternative routes where available.
