Kungsbacka sports association defrauded of over 500,000 kronor
A man in his 80s has been convicted of aggravated money laundering after defrauding a sports association in Kungsbacka and an individual of significant sums. The fraud originated from a phone call in 2022, where a caller posing as a lawyer claimed to have recovered 1.8 million kronor previously lost by a couple.
Following the call, funds were siphoned from both the association’s and the individual’s bank accounts. Police mapping revealed that 516,000 kronor were taken from the sports association and 443,500 kronor from the individual's personal account. The money was moved through various accounts before reaching the convicted man, who then transferred large portions to other private individuals and a payment service company.
The defendant denied the charges, claiming he had used his account as an intermediary to recover his own investment losses, a defense rejected by the court.
