Kuningan officials label student assault as criminal act

A violent assault involving students in Kuningan, West Java, has drawn significant attention after a 15-year-old student from SMPN 2 Jalaksana required surgery and received approximately 30 stitches to his head due to acute bleeding.

Kuningan Regent Dian Rachmat Yanuar visited the victim's family, stating that the severity of the injuries elevates the incident from mere juvenile delinquency to a criminal matter. He emphasized that legal consequences should be considered rather than relying solely on mediation.

The perpetrator, an 18-year-old student from SMK Pertiwi Kuningan, has reportedly withdrawn from his school following the incident. School officials at SMK Pertiwi Kuningan stated they were unaware of the severity of the assault until it was reported in the media. While a family-based mediation was reportedly attempted, the local Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) is considering sanctions against the school.
