Kuno National Park: Namibian cheetah Gaurav dies during treatment

Gaurav, a Namibian cheetah brought to India as part of Project Cheetah, died on Monday while undergoing treatment at Kuno National Park. The cheetah, who was over 10 years old, had been rescued from the wild on September 12 after appearing weak and lethargic.

Wildlife veterinarians reported that Gaurav suffered from severe dehydration and muscle damage. While he was placed in a quarantine boma in Palpur for intensive medical monitoring, his condition did not improve. The exact cause of death remains unclear and will be determined following a post-mortem examination and sample analysis.

Following this death, the cheetah population in Kuno National Park has decreased to 51, including 36 cheetahs born in India. Including the four cheetahs in the Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary, the total number of cheetahs in India is now 55.
