Kunsthalle Bremen announces exhibition of female artists

The Kunsthalle Bremen has announced an upcoming exhibition titled ‘Mehr Frauen! Bremer Künstlerinnen auf Papier’, scheduled to run from July 22 to November 8, 2026. The exhibition follows a research project examining the museum's collection of drawings by artists from Bremen.

While the collection contains over 1,800 works, nearly a quarter are by women. The exhibition will feature 60 selected works, highlighting both world-renowned figures like Paula Modersohn-Becker and lesser-known contemporaries such as Clara Rilke-Westhoff, Marie Bock, and Anna Plate. The showcase aims to explore how these women navigated systemic barriers, such as the prohibition of women studying at state art academies until 1919, through networking and organizations like the ‘Bremer Malerinnenverband’ and GEDOK.
