Kunugi introduces seasonal chestnut Momiji Kuchen in Hiroshima

Kunugi, a confectionery company based in Hiroshima, has announced the launch of a seasonal chestnut-flavored version of its popular Momiji Kuchen. Starting October 19, 2026, the limited-edition product will feature chestnut paste to provide a fragrant autumn flavor paired with the signature moist texture of baumkuchen dough.

The Momiji Kuchen is shaped like the iconic maple leaf of Hiroshima. The company noted that Hiroshima holds historical significance as the birthplace of baumkuchen in Japan, following the introduction of the pastry by German confectioner Karl Juchheim in 1919.

The seasonal product will be sold in boxes of five individually wrapped pieces and will be available at Sogo Hiroshima and the JR Hiroshima Station ekie store until supplies last.
