Kuomintang accused of failing to fulfill gift box orders for sheltered workshops
Sheltered workshops in Taiwan have accused the Kuomintang (KMT) of failing to follow through on verbal orders for Mid-Autumn Festival gift boxes. The Pingtung-based workshop ‘Manman Hengchun’ reported that after inquiring about an order for 300 boxes, the KMT failed to place a formal order despite later claiming to have completed all such purchases.
A similar situation was reported by a workshop in Kaohsiung and the Grass Small Care Association, which noted they had already ordered packaging materials in anticipation of the order. KMT officials attributed the incident to a communication misunderstanding, noting that ‘Manman Hengchun’ was not on the original list of 37 workshops designated for procurement by the Presidential Office.
In response to the controversy, KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-wen stated that the orders had been placed. Meanwhile, Pan Meng-an, the Secretary-General of the Presidential Office, reportedly purchased the 300 boxes from ‘Manman Hengchun’ to support the local workshop and meet community needs.
