Kuopio ski jump demolished after historic victories by Małysz and Stoch

The K-92 normal ski jump at the Puijo complex in Kuopio, Finland, has been demolished. The facility was historically significant for international competitors, including Polish champions Adam Małysz and Kamil Stoch, who achieved multiple victories at the site.

The decision to dismantle the structure followed concerns regarding its technical condition, specifically a judging tower that posed a risk of collapse. Local officials determined the facility was no longer economically viable to maintain and opted to renovate the surrounding area instead.

Finnish ski jumping experts and coaches, including Lauri Hakola, have expressed concern over the loss of the facility. They note that the absence of a medium-sized hill creates a difficult training gap for young athletes transitioning from small hills (K65) to large hills (K120), potentially hindering the development of future talent in a country already facing a shortage of training infrastructure.
