Kupwara road accident: 5 killed, 6 injured as car plunges into river

Five people were killed and six others injured after a car veered off the Titwal-Simari road and plunged into the Kishangananga River in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

The accident occurred in the Simari area of Karnah. The injured were initially taken to the Tangdhar Sub-District Hospital before being transferred to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Handwara for advanced treatment. Authorities are currently working to identify the deceased and the injured.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and instructed the district administration to ensure the best possible medical care for the survivors. Local officials noted that speeding, improper overtaking, and poor road conditions in hilly terrains remain significant contributors to fatal accidents in the region.
