Mazloum Abdi announces completion of Kurdish institution integration into Syrian state

Mazloum Abdi, leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has announced the completion of the integration of Kurdish military, security, and administrative institutions into the Syrian state. This development follows a January agreement with the central government in Damascus.

Speaking in Kamishli, Abdi stated that the integration of these institutions marks the beginning of a new phase. The process includes the incorporation of security and administrative bodies into the national state framework. Following the transition, Abdi emphasized that the political focus will shift toward securing Kurdish rights within the new Syrian Constitution.

The integration follows a period of instability and conflict. After the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, President Ahmed al-Sharaa issued a decree in January that recognized Kurdish as a national language and guaranteed the national rights of the Kurdish people. This move was described as unprecedented in Syria since its independence in 1946.
