Kurdish forces hold 2,200 suspected jihadist relatives in Syria

Approximately 2,200 relatives of suspected jihadists from nearly 50 different nationalities remain detained in the Al-Hol camp in northeastern Syria. The camp is currently under the control of Kurdish security forces.

Despite a previous agreement to integrate Kurdish political and military institutions into the central Syrian government, the transfer of control over the camp to Damascus is reportedly delayed. Sources indicate that the transition will require significant time.

The detainees include 729 families associated with ISIS. The largest group of foreign nationals in the camp holds Russian citizenship, followed by approximately 40 French nationals. Other nationalities present include citizens from the United Kingdom, Germany, Turkey, Tunisia, and Morocco. One notable individual mentioned is Samira Begum, a British national who had her citizenship revoked after traveling to join ISIS in 2015.
