Kurdistan Province aims to expand tourism and handicraft infrastructure

Pouya Talebnian, the Director General of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts for Kurdistan Province, has emphasized the necessity of developing infrastructure to create economic opportunities in rural areas. This initiative aims to boost local activities and stabilize rural populations through the expansion of eco-lodges and the attraction of new investors.

During a recent meeting, Talebnian noted that four tourism projects were recently operationalized. He also highlighted that the villages of Darre Tafi and Palangan in Kurdistan have been selected as part of a national program to identify top tourist villages.

Regarding the handicraft sector, the province hosts approximately 45,000 artisans practicing 45 different crafts, 24 of which are indigenous to the region. Plans are underway to establish a complete production and sales chain to transform the province into a regional handicraft hub. Proposed developments include a dedicated handicraft shop in the Kurdish House of Sanandaj and the allocation of land near the grain warehouse for related activities.
