Kurdistan Regional Government seeks neutrality in regional conflicts

Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), has stated that the semi-autonomous region intends to remain neutral in current regional conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Barzani noted that KRG infrastructure has suffered damage from over 1,000 missile and drone attacks since February 28, originating either from Iran or through militias within Iraq. He characterized these attacks as "unjustified" and called for peaceful dialogue to resolve regional issues.

The KRG expressed support for the Iraqi central government's initiative to establish a monopoly on arms. This follows a mandate by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, who set a September 30 deadline for all armed factions to surrender weapons to state control.

Regarding foreign relations, Barzani confirmed that the KRG maintains no ties with Israel, while noting that cooperation with Syria and Turkiye is deepening. Additionally, KRG President Nechirvan Barzani recently met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, marking the first visit by a Kurdish leader to Syria since the fall of the previous administration in December 2024.
