Kurseong car accident leaves one dead and five injured

A vehicle accident in the hills of north Bengal’s Kurseong resulted in one death and five injuries after a car plunged approximately 200 feet into a ditch on the Kargil Dhara road. The incident occurred late Sunday night while six friends, residents of Siliguri, were traveling from Kurseong toward Siliguri following a sightseeing trip.

Heavy rain and darkness are believed to have contributed to the vehicle losing control. Local residents initiated rescue efforts before police and state disaster management teams arrived to extract those trapped in the vehicle. The deceased has been sent for autopsy, while the five injured individuals were transported to hospitals in Kurseong and Siliguri for treatment.

Authorities have noted that the region has experienced prolonged rainfall due to the withdrawal of the monsoon, prompting warnings for drivers to exercise caution on hilly roads, particularly at night.
