Kursk Nuclear Power Plant cooling tower struck by drone

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that a drone struck a cooling tower at the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant in Russia during the early hours of Thursday.

According to the IAEA, the reactor unit was in operation at the time of the impact. However, the facility's operating mode remained unchanged, and no fire was reported following the strike.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi described attacks on nuclear facilities as ‘unacceptable,’ noting they jeopardize nuclear safety and security. Grossi issued a call for maximum military restraint to prevent the risk of a nuclear accident. Neither Russia nor Ukraine has immediately commented on the incident.
