Kurt Meier, German immigrant and BC community figure, passes away
Kurt Meier, a German immigrant who settled in British Columbia, has passed away. Born in Hamburg, Germany, Meier immigrated to Canada in 1955 at the age of 20 to seek better opportunities following World War II.
After settling in Vancouver, he married Elfriede in 1956. Together, they raised three children and established a life in the region. Meier worked for various companies and eventually co-owned a machine shop with his brother, Bernd. He was an active community member, serving as a coach and umpire for the Grandview Minor Hockey Association, an executive member of the Vancouver Alpen Club, and a director for the Edelweiss/Prospera Credit Union.
After living in Vancouver and later Coquitlam, Meier moved to Salmon Arm in early 2024, where he spent his final months enjoying the local lifestyle.
