Kurt Warner jersey retirement scheduled at UNI

The University of Northern Iowa (UNI) will retire the jersey of former NFL quarterback and UNI alumnus Kurt Warner during a pregame ceremony this Saturday at the UNI-Dome. The event will take place ahead of the Panthers' home football opener against Drake.

Warner, a Burlington, Iowa native, will be honored with a banner featuring his name and No. 13 jersey. This ceremony marks the fifth of 19 planned jersey retirements as part of the university's sesquicentennial celebration. To commemorate the event, the university plans to distribute 1,000 replica Warner jerseys to early-arriving fans.

During his collegiate career at UNI, Warner was named the Gateway Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Conference honors. In his senior season in 1993, he led the Panthers to a conference title and an NCAA Division I-AA playoff berth.
