Turkey hosts various traditional wrestling and cycling championships

Various traditional and competitive sporting events are taking place across Turkey. In Balıkesir, the 66th Traditional Kurtdereli Mehmet Pehlivan Oil Wrestling tournament is being held from August 21–23. The event features 1,642 wrestlers, including 73 head wrestlers, and includes the opening of the Kurtdereli Mehmet Pehlivan Memorial House to preserve his legacy.

In Antalya, a cooperation protocol was signed between the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and Elmalı Municipality to support the 674th Elmalı Oil Wrestling tournament. Meanwhile, in Kahramanmaraş, the Traditional Karakucak Fair Wrestling is returning to the arena after a 26-year hiatus, with the 28th edition scheduled for August 22.

In cycling, athletes from Akhisar achieved notable success at the Yeşilay Turkey Road Championship in Burdur. İlknur Buğlem Karataş secured the championship in the U15 women’s category, while other Akhisar cyclists earned podium finishes in various age groups during the individual time trial and road races.
