Kuruçay village residents use traditional methods for winter preparations
Residents of Kuruçay village in the Çekerek district of Yozgat are engaging in traditional communal work, known as 'imece', to prepare for the upcoming winter season.
One major effort involves the collective gathering of oak firewood. Following permissions from the Forestry Directorate, villagers are working in coordinated teams to cut and transport oak wood using tractors. Oak is preferred for its high heat efficiency, and the process also benefits the environment as leftover branches and leaves serve as fodder for livestock.
Additionally, villagers are preparing 'bottle tarhana', a practical variation of the traditional soup base. Unlike the standard method that requires sun-drying, this version involves boiling a mixture of yogurt, flour, eggs, and oil, which is then sealed in bottles. This method allows the mixture to be stored for several years and provides a quick, nutritious meal for families and guests.
