Kurupt credits Left Eye with bankruptcy idea to exit Death Row deal
Rapper Kurupt has revealed that the late TLC member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes provided the inspiration for his strategy to exit his contract with Death Row Records. In a recent interview, Kurupt explained that Lopes taught him that filing for bankruptcy could potentially eliminate both personal debts and contractual obligations with a record company.
Kurupt stated that upon learning bankruptcy could void a recording agreement, he planned to file so he could either renegotiate with the label or sign with a new company. Kurupt has a long history with Death Row Records, having joined in 1992 as part of Tha Dogg Pound, returning during the Tha Row era in 2002, and eventually returning again under Snoop Dogg’s ownership.
