Kushe Aunshi Father's Day observed across Nepal

Followers of the Vedic Sanatan Dharma are observing Kushe Aunshi, also known as Father's Day or Gokarne Aunshi, across Nepal. The festival involves bringing sacred kusha grass into homes, which is believed to bring prosperity and well-being to the family. According to religious tradition, this grass is worshipped and uprooted by a Brahmin and can be used for rituals dedicated to deities and ancestors throughout the year.

On this occasion, children honor their fathers by serving them favorite foods and sweets while seeking their blessings. For those whose fathers have passed away, the day involves performing sacred rituals such as tarpan, pindadan, and shraddha at pilgrimage sites to honor their lineage.

A significant gathering occurs at the Gokarneshwor Mahadev Temple in northeastern Kathmandu, a site known as Uttar Gaya, where large numbers of people perform rituals in memory of their deceased fathers.
