Kushinagar floods triggered by Narayani River embankment breach

A major breach in the Narayani River’s AP embankment near Tatwa Tola in the Tamkuhiraj tehsil of Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, has caused significant flooding in several villages. The breach, reported late on September 28, occurred following rising river levels and continuous seepage, resulting in a gap of approximately 25 to 100 metres in the embankment.

The flooding has submerged agricultural fields, destroying paddy and sugarcane crops, and has threatened approximately a dozen to twenty villages. In response, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered immediate evacuation efforts and deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams for large-scale rescue operations.

Chief Minister Adityanath visited the affected areas on Tuesday to distribute relief materials. He announced compensation of Rs 4 lakh for families who suffer loss of life, as well as assistance for damaged homes and crop losses. The state government has also arranged 5,000 relief packets containing essential food items for displaced residents.
