Kushiro launches free construction training school to combat labor shortages

Murai Kensetsu Skill Training School Co., Ltd. has established a free construction skill training school in Kushiro, Hokkaido, to address the regional shortage of construction workers and the aging workforce.

Targeting job seekers in their 20s and 30s, the two-month program offers basic training, short-term internships, and job search support at no cost to participants. To encourage enrollment, the school provides daily allowances of 3,000 yen during classroom training and up to 5,000 yen during internships.

The initiative aims to reduce early turnover caused by mismatches between worker expectations and actual site conditions by incorporating hands-on internship experiences. The school is supported by operating contributions from 73 local member companies of the 'Ikoka' association rather than charging recruitment fees.
