Kushtia hosts festival marking 136th death anniversary of Fakir Lalon Shah

A three-day festival has commenced at Lalon Akhrabari in Chheuriya, Kushtia, to mark the 136th death anniversary of the Baul saint Fakir Lalon Shah. The event, which runs until October 19, draws musicians, spiritual practitioners, and devotees from Bangladesh and abroad to participate in Sadhu Sangha, a tradition centered on spiritual practice and philosophical exchange.

Followers emphasize that the gathering honors Lalon’s humanist philosophy, which challenged religious orthodoxy, caste divisions, and social discrimination. The festival serves as a platform to preserve the centuries-old tradition of bringing together diverse spiritual lineages to strengthen relationships between teachers and disciples through song and fellowship.

Organizers have prepared temporary structures and improved local infrastructure, including a dedicated road for the fair, to accommodate the influx of visitors to the historic shrine.
