Kustzeilers 24 Uurs Zeilrace begins with 303 boats

The 61st Kustzeilers 24 Uurs Zeilrace commenced on Friday evening, August 28, 2026, on the IJsselmeer and Markermeer. Out of 399 pre-registered participants, 303 boats officially started the race.

Weather conditions at the start were variable. While yellow code thunderstorm warnings were in effect, the storms passed before the start, resulting in lighter winds than initially feared. In Medemblik, winds were approximately 15 knots from the southwest. However, forecasts indicate challenging conditions ahead, with wind speeds expected to reach 22 to 25 knots and gusts accompanying rain showers.

The competition features a diverse field, including returning winners from previous years and world champions making their debut. Participants are also competing to break the distance record of 222.06 miles, set in 2021 by team Blacquire aboard the TH 38 Blacq Magic.
