Kutai Timur promotes sustainable palm oil through ISPO certification

The Kutai Timur Regency government in East Kalimantan is accelerating the implementation of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certifications. The initiative aims to balance economic production with environmental conservation and the welfare of independent farmers.

Regent Ardiansyah Sulaiman launched the second phase of the Sustainable Landscape Initiative in Kutai Timur (Sustain Kutim) for the 2026–2030 period. This follows the first phase (2023–2026), which successfully provided ISPO and RSPO certifications to nine independent farmer cooperatives in the Bengalon and Rantau Pulung districts, covering more than 1,200 farmers.

The second phase of Sustain Kutim focuses on five priority areas: multi-stakeholder governance through the Formika forum, ecosystem protection and conservation, regenerative agriculture using Good Agricultural Practices, the development of alternative businesses for local communities, and budget integration.
