Kutawaringin landslide damages homes after irrigation dam breach

An irrigation dam breach triggered a landslide in Kutawaringin Village, Kutawaringin District, Bandung Regency, on Wednesday morning. Heavy rainfall caused water levels to rise, leading to the failure of the dam, which was reportedly weakened by previous cracks from a long drought.

The landslide, measuring approximately 30 meters in length and 15 meters in height, impacted 10 houses and affected roughly 20 residents. According to the Bandung Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), two houses sustained heavy damage and one sustained moderate damage. In one instance, a permanent residence was reportedly shifted about 10 meters by the landslide material.

Residents whose homes were severely damaged have temporarily relocated to the homes of relatives. Local authorities are coordinating with the West Java Provincial Water Resources Service to repair the dam, with initial mitigation steps including the installation of gabions before heavy machinery is deployed for repairs.
