Kutno students participate in educational walks exploring Jewish history

Students in Kutno, Poland, are participating in a series of educational walks designed to explore the history of the city’s former Jewish community. Led by regionalist and educator Bożena Gajewska, the tours guide participants through locations that once served as the heart of Jewish life approximately 100 years ago.

The walks highlight significant landmarks, including the Great Synagogue at the intersection of Senatorska and Synagoska streets, and the former Public Primary School No. 3 on Kościuszki Street, which hosted “Szabasówki” for Jewish children. Participants also visit sites related to the family of writer Shalom Asch and view historical details such as polychromes in the local theater.

Organized by the ‘Friends and Families of the Jews of Kutno’ Foundation as part of the ‘To be sick means to remember!’ public task, the initiative is supported by the President of Kutno. The program has engaged various local schools, including high school seniors and primary school students, throughout September and October.
