Egypt sees drop in rice and meat prices in late July 2026

On July 26‑27, 2026, Egyptian staple food prices fell. The price of broad‑grain rice (arbor) per ton was reported between 15,000 EGP and 16,000 EGP, while the thin‑grain variety ranged from 14,000 EGP to 15,000 EGP, equating to about 16‑18 EGP per kilogram. White local rice also eased, with broad‑grain rates around 27‑29 EGP/kg and thin‑grain around 25‑26 EGP/kg. The government announced the upcoming rice harvest season from late August through October, aiming for self‑sufficiency by cultivating one million feddans.

Meat prices recorded on July 27 showed notable reductions. Clean lamb averaged 476 EGP/kg (down 3 EGP), bone‑in lamb fell to 425 EGP/kg (down 12 EGP). Clean beef (beef kebabs) averaged 451 EGP/kg, a drop of 10.5 EGP, while bone‑in beef slipped to 395 EGP/kg, down 33 EGP. Various cuts of kanduz (young goat) also declined, with average prices ranging from 365 EGP to 442 EGP per kilogram, each lower by 2‑7 EGP. These figures were released by the Council of Ministers' information centre.
