Kuwait Minister calls for updated child rights legislation
Kuwaiti Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila, has called for the creation of safe family and social environments to support the psychological, social, and cognitive development of children. Speaking at the opening of the Mental Health Forum and the second Ministry of Social Affairs exhibition for 2026, Al-Huwaila emphasized the necessity of updating legislation to guarantee children's rights, specifically highlighting the need to modernize the Child Law.
The forum, organized by the Awareness and Guidance Center under the theme ‘Play is Life: When Play Becomes a Language for Learning and Growth,’ focuses on the role of play in child development. Al-Huwaila noted that play is not merely entertainment but a natural language for children to express emotions, discover themselves, and build essential skills.
The event includes scientific sessions and workshops covering topics such as play and mental health, play and the developing brain, and the role of the family in play. The Ministry expressed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote mental health and strengthen the role of the family through professional expertise and community partnerships.
