Kuwait to launch smart home vehicle impoundment system
Kuwait’s General Traffic Department will launch a smart home vehicle impoundment system on September 6, 2026. The initiative, introduced by the Ministry of Interior, aims to modernize traffic procedures and expand digital services by allowing vehicles involved in certain violations to serve impoundment periods at home.
Under the new system, a smart impoundment device will be installed on the vehicle at the site where the violation is recorded. The official impoundment period begins at midnight on the day of the violation, providing owners time to transport the vehicle to a designated home location. The cost includes a KD 10 installation fee plus a daily impoundment charge of KD 2.
Vehicles currently held in traffic impoundment garages may be transferred to this smart system to complete their remaining impoundment time at home. Once the period concludes, motorists will receive a notification via the Sahel government services application and must visit a designated location to finalize release procedures.
