Kuwaiti charity and WFP sign $500,000 deal for Sudan food aid
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Kuwaiti Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri Charity Association have signed a $500,000 cooperation agreement to provide food aid to displaced persons and those affected by the crisis in Sudan.
The agreement is set to span one full year and aims to provide food baskets and assistance to approximately 47,000 people. Omar Al-Issa, the WFP Director in Kuwait, stated that the initiative strengthens the response to growing nutritional needs in Sudan and serves as a model for integrated humanitarian efforts.
Jassim Al-Nouri, General Manager of the charity association, noted that the aid is intended to meet basic needs and alleviate the economic and humanitarian burdens on displaced families. The initiative comes amid UN estimates that roughly 19.5 million people in Sudan are facing acute food insecurity due to ongoing conflict, displacement, and disrupted economic activities.
