KV Mechelen to host charity match against FC Karpaty Lviv for Ukrainian veterans
KV Mechelen will host a charity football match against the Ukrainian club FC Karpaty Lviv on October 2. The event aims to raise funds for a center in Lviv that provides care and guidance for tortured and traumatized war veterans.
The initiative stems from a sister-city relationship established two years ago between Mechelen and Lviv. Since then, Mechelen has supported the Ukrainian city through humanitarian convoys and administrative assistance. The proceeds from ticket sales will go entirely to the veteran center, which has received support from Flanders.
Representatives from the Ukrainian embassy in Brussels expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting the significant impact of the conflict on athletes and sports infrastructure in Ukraine. The match is intended to demonstrate solidarity and friendship between the two cities.
