KV Mechelen to host charity match for Ukrainian war survivors
KV Mechelen will host FC Karpaty Lviv in a charity football match at the AFAS Stadion on October 3. Organized by Foundation Mechelen in collaboration with the city of Mechelen, the event supports a center in Lviv dedicated to helping individuals who have survived imprisonment and torture during the war.
The match is part of a partnership between Mechelen and Lviv. To honor the cause, the stadium will be decorated in Ukrainian and Belgian colors, and the event will include a minute of silence for war victims. Yaroslav Melnyk, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Belgium, is scheduled to perform the kickoff.
In addition to the sporting event, Mechelen is coordinating significant humanitarian relief. On October 5, a third convoy consisting of eleven vehicles will depart for Lviv, carrying medical supplies, bulletproof vests, generators, and other essential goods. To date, three convoys from Mechelen have delivered approximately 33 vehicles and nearly 100,000 medical items to the region. Furthermore, the city of Mechelen has allocated 450,000 euros to support the expansion of the center for survivors of captivity and torture in Lviv.
