KVK expands UBO register access for Dutch insurers

The Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (KVK) is expanding access to the Ultimate Beneficial Owner (UBO) register for insurers subject to the Wwft (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Prevention Act). Access will be granted in phases, starting with life insurers. These entities can request digitally certified UBO extracts via the KVK website or through an API channel.

For insurers requiring regular access, an API connection is recommended. While current API requests provide PDF extracts, a new API 2.0 is expected to launch in mid-2027, allowing for structured data exchange via JSON. Additionally, since June 2026, authorization for corporate UBO registers has automatically included access to trust registers.

The expansion comes amid increasing regulatory importance regarding data quality under the Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR). Organizations must now not only use accurate information but also demonstrate the source, verification methods, and monitoring of changes in ownership or management structures throughout the customer relationship.
