Kwak Geon-hwi wins men's recurve archery gold at Aichi-Nagoya APG

South Korean archer Kwak Geon-hwi secured the gold medal in the men's recurve event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games. Competing in Okazaki, Japan, Kwak defeated China's Zhao Lixue with a set score of 6-4 (23-22, 23-29, 27-29, 27-26, 27-26).

The victory occurred amidst heavy rainfall, requiring Kwak to maintain composure while shooting in the downpour. This marks the second gold medal for the South Korean archery team at the games and the 29th gold medal for the entire South Korean delegation.

Kwak, who began archery following a disability sustained during military service in 2010, noted that his experience with wind and rain adjustments helped him manage the weather. He also credited a dragonfly charm on his hat—a birthday gift from fellow gold medalist Park Hong-jo—as a symbol of good luck during the match. Looking ahead, Kwak expressed his goal to qualify for the 2028 LA Paralympics.
