Kwaku Azar calls for dismissal of NPP presidential term limit suit
Legal scholar and CDD-Ghana Fellow Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare, known as Kwaku Azar, has urged the Supreme Court to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding presidential term limits.
In a written statement responding to the party’s writ against the Attorney General, Asare argued that the court should only hear cases involving genuine constitutional disputes rather than settling public debates. He noted that the Supreme Court functions as a court of law rather than a “constitutional advice centre.”
The NPP is seeking declarations on the interpretation of Articles 58(2) and 66(1), (2), and (3)(a) of the 1992 Constitution to clarify the meaning of presidential term limits.
