Kwame Baffoe faces legal setbacks in defamation and public peace cases

Kwame Baffoe, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) known as Abronye, is facing multiple legal challenges in Ghana. The Court of Appeal in Kumasi recently rejected his application for a stay of proceedings in a defamation lawsuit filed by lawyer and journalist Samson Lardy Anyenini. The lawsuit, initiated in April 2025, alleges that broadcasts on Wontumi TV and Radio falsely characterized Anyenini as corrupt and dishonest.

In a separate matter, Baffoe has been rearrested following allegations of publishing false information intended to cause fear and panic, as well as engaging in conduct likely to disrupt public peace. Following his latest court appearance, he was granted bail set at GH¢1 million with the requirement of two sureties. This arrest follows a previous detention for similar allegations involving false publications within the last month.
