Kwame Nkrumah legacy honored in Ghana and Jamaica

Ghana is observing Kwame Nkrumah Day to honor the country’s first president and his role in leading the nation to independence from British colonial rule in 1957. The commemorations highlight his legacy as a central figure in the Pan-African movement and a founder of the Organisation of African Unity.

In Jamaica, the People’s National Party (PNP) issued a tribute to Nkrumah, noting the historical connection between his vision and the teachings of Marcus Garvey. The PNP described Nkrumah as a monumental leader whose work helped galvanize global Pan-African consciousness.

To further celebrate this legacy, the Kwame Nkrumah Reggae Festival is scheduled for September 26 in Accra. Organized by Reggae Network Ghana, the event features artists such as Osagyefo, Royal Souljah, and Ras Boomba. The festival aims to use reggae music to connect social commentary with themes of African identity, freedom, and Nkrumah’s political contributions.
