Kwara monarch dies after rescue from kidnappers
Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, the Onigbesi of Igbesi Land, has died following a brief illness shortly after being rescued from kidnappers. The monarch passed away in a hospital in the early hours of Saturday, September 12.
The abduction occurred on August 22 when armed men invaded the Igbesi community in the Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State. The monarch was freed five days later during a joint security operation involving police, military personnel, and vigilantes in the Elerin/Ijomu-Oro axis.
During the rescue mission, security forces engaged in a gun battle with the suspected kidnappers, resulting in the death of one suspect. The monarch was among three victims rescued during the operation and was subsequently taken for medical treatment.
