Kwara, Nigeria Trailer Crash Kills 15 and Injures 17
In the early hours of 6 June 2026, a DAF XF trailer (registration GWL274XC) carrying 48 male passengers crashed near the Muslim cemetery on the Ogbomoso‑Oka Olowo (Ilorin‑Jebba) expressway in Oko‑Olowo, Kwara State, Nigeria. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said driver fatigue caused the driver, Nasiru Muhammed, to fall asleep, leading the trailer to overturn and its load to fall.
Fifteen people were killed on the spot and 17 sustained serious injuries such as fractures, dislocations and bruises; 16 passengers escaped unhurt. The injured were taken to Arewa Medical Centre and Baki Hospital. FRSC sector commander Kabiru Babatunde Kazeem coordinated rescue operations, released the bodies to families and the local Sarkin Hausawa, and announced plans for public‑enlightenment campaigns urging motorists to avoid night travel and mixed loading.
The incident underscores ongoing road‑safety challenges on Kwara highways.
